Carbon Sink is a series of generative images and animations produced while in residence at Playa Art & Science Residency in Summer Lake Oregon. Summer Lake is an alkaline lake that is a few inches deep, and a dozen miles long. The alkaline salts in the lake act as a major carbon sink, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere. 

The series composites photographs of the salts with photographs of the sky using a classic coding algorithm called “the game of life”. Particles in the system live, eat, reproduce and die, generating patterns that emulate life, and refer to the invisible carbon particles increasing in our atmosphere.
