Astronomers parse light into spectrographic arrays that allow them to glean all sorts of invisible aspects of the universe. Spectra is a series that recreates the spectrographic data produced by the instruments of the Magellan Telescope of the Carnegie Observatories in Chile. Nine photographs are taken of aspects of the observatory: the instrument, the sky, the landscape, etc. These 9 photos are woven together with custom software to produce the spectra pattern seen in the series. The name MAGE and IMACS come from the specific spectrographs used to produce these forms.
