High-energy extragalactic gamma rays are striking Earth’s atmosphere many times per day, coming from all directions. When these strikes occur, they cause an “air shower,” a cascade of sub-atomic particles. This chain reaction causes a blue light visible from special ground-based telescopes.
The Air Shower series is a generative artwork created from photographs of the night sky. Each time custom software is run, an air shower is produced, creating an unique branching pattern made from the pixel data of the original photograph.
