Observers

Observers is a project cataloguing earthbound astronomical observatories at various locales around the world. These labs, instruments and telescopes put our bodies in touch with a universe they will never perceive unaided. From Galileo’s discovery of Jupiter’s moons in 1609, to Edwin Hubble’s discover of galaxies beyond our own in 1923 (and ever forward), we have been telling the story of the birth, life and death of the cosmos using these seeing machines. The project includes optical, radio, and spectrographic telescopes and arrays, individual instruments, laboratories and facilities tucked into hidden valleys, university basements, and extreme environments on the globe.
